Back to Earth was developed as part of the WDC Campus at the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt in collaboration with earthbound, Sola e.V., and Studio ttal. The pavilion is constructed from unfired compressed earth blocks (CEB) made from excavated soil sourced in Berlin-Marzahn as well as re-used wood, resting on a foundation of reclaimed concrete elements from the former Berlin Tegel Airport.
By eliminating firing processes and cement-based binders, the construction reduces embodied CO₂ emissions by up to 98% compared to conventional masonry.
All materials are fully reusable and can be returned to either the technical or natural material cycle without loss of quality, demonstrating the potential of circular, low-impact construction.
